Veneers or laminates are thin shells (usually made of porcelain) that fit over your existing teeth to transform the appearance of their size, shape, color, and spacing. To ensure your veneers fit your teeth properly, your dentist will need to remove small amounts of enamel from each tooth receiving one. Because of this, treatment is considered permanent, and any teeth prepared this way always need either a veneer or a crown going forward. Although your entire veneers treatment can typically be completed in about two weeks, much of that time is simply waiting for them to be customized at the dental lab. However, because your teeth will be vulnerable to damage due to the enamel removal, your dentist will place temporary veneers on your teeth to keep them safe while you wait. This will also help to reduce any sensitivity to hot and cold and give you a better idea of how your new smile will look and feel once complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that while they will protect your smile, your temporary veneers aren\u2019t as durable as your permanent ones will be, so you should be careful when eating, as they are more prone to breakage and staining.  Thus, be sure to avoid any foods that are too hard, sticky, crunchy or any darkly pigmented beverages like coffee and red wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
