If you’ve been considering fixing your bad bite but want a faster, more comfortable, and less invasive treatment than traditional braces, you may be interested in learning more about Invisalign. While you may not believe it’s possible to correct your smile flaws with such a small piece of plastic, the truth is there’s a wide range of issues aligners can correct- maybe even yours. Here’s a closer look at this innovative orthodontic treatment, and how it could help fix your bad bite more efficiently than wires and brackets!

Which Bite Problems Can Invisalign Fix?

Although they look, feel, and work differently than traditional braces, Invisalign can still treat many of the same orthodontic problems braces can, and a lot faster, too. Here’s what it can fix:

Overbite

If the teeth on your upper arch come in too far in front of the bottom ones, this is what is known as an overbite. In addition to causing people to feel insecure about their smiles, they can also make it difficult to bite into or chew on certain foods.

Underbite

When your lower arch of teeth jut further than the ones on the upper, this is called an underbite. Underbites can increase the risk of damaging your teeth and may also cause speech articulation problems.

Crowding

Crowding doesn’t just look embarrassing, but it can also make regular oral hygiene difficult and increase your risk of developing cavities between the teeth (interproximal).

Crooked Teeth

Crooked teeth can make you insecure about sharing your smile and may or may not accompany a bite problem.

Crossbite

Crossbites occur when your upper teeth are positioned inside your lower teeth. These alignments can increase your risk of chipped teeth and gum recession.

Gaps

If you have gaps between your teeth, it can complicate everything from brushing and flossing to speaking clearly and chewing properly. Worse yet, it can increase your risk of plaque buildup, cavities, and gum disease.

Which Bite Problems Can’t Be Treated with Invisalign?

While it’s true that Invisalign can correct a variety of bite problems, there are a few that it still cannot fix. If you currently suffer from the following, you may be better suited to other treatments:

  • Teeth that are very short, round, stubby or pegged, as these may not fit well in a clear aligner.
  • Molars that are rotated more than 20 degrees or any teeth that are tilted more than 45 degrees.
  • Very large gaps between teeth.
  • Teeth that need to be raised or lowered.
  • Teeth that require midline (the imaginary line down the center of your face) movement of more than 2mm.
  • Teeth with bridges, crowns, or veneers.

Remember, although it may seem very different from traditional braces, the truth is that Invisalign can still fix a variety of bite problems faster, more comfortably and more discreetly than you may have thought possible.
