Typically, holiday festivities are filled with apple pie, mulled wine, and other sugary treats. While they are certainly delicious, they also are a recipe for cavities. That’s why you should consider having holiday hors d’oeuvres that are smile-friendly instead! If you’re unsure where to begin, read on for a few ideas that your dentist will approve of.

Hard-Boiled Egg Snowmen

Eggs are a great source of Vitamin D, which is essential to keeping your bones and teeth strong. Carrots are another smile-friendly food because their crunchy consistency helps remove food particles and plaque from your teeth. Good news: you can incorporate both with hard-boiled egg snowmen. Simply stack two hard-boiled eggs and use a small carrot for the nose!

Tree-Shaped Spinach Artichoke Frittatas

Leafy greens, like spinach, are filled with lots of essential vitamins and minerals. However, not everyone is a fan of the taste. That’s okay – you can sneakily add it to the plate in a frittata! This hors d’oeuvre easily comes together with some tree-shaped molds. Plus, there is the added bonus that eggs are a great source of Vitamin D and milk is a great source of calcium.

Cheese Reindeer

This hors d’oeuvre is incredibly versatile because you can use any cheese you have. Simply cut your block of cheese into triangles (or buy a cheese that’s already in that shape) and add a pretzel to each side of the top. Then, add a red grape on the pointy end for the nose. This rich-in-calcium snack will sure to have your guests and your dentist smiling!

Tree-Shaped Pita Bites

To make this hors d’oeuvre, cut your pita into triangles and then add some guacamole on top. Next, grab all of your favorite toppings for the “ornaments,”, like grilled onions, fresh tomatoes, and sour cream. You’ll end up with a delicious snack that is packed with nutrients to keep your teeth and gums healthy!

Black Olive Penguins

Similar to the hard-boiled egg snowmen, you can assemble this festive treat by simply stacking one black olive on top of another. Then, use some cream cheese to fill the inside, a carrot for the nose, and a toothpick to hold it all in place. While the olive will bring the flavor, the cream cheese will bring the calcium!
